365 LLC Days 270 - 272: Of Short Letter Of Love, New Hobby Basics, & Wearing Something Luxurious

September 27, 2018

Something that takes a bit of thought when writing letters of love and admiration, I think it's very lovely to receive and send letters to friends and family and wish it would come back into style a bit more. This one is for a friend that I correspond with, they are very talented and this falls in timbre with me wanting to tell them that I love something they have recently done.

September 28, 2018

Fun fact: Madeline loves little amigurumi. These little yarn critters are just too cute and I like how there doesn't seem to be an end to creation choices. I was actually gifted this book recently so I would like to make one of the creatures from it for them. I already know how to crochet but I do not know how to make these at all. Here's to finding out, I would like to be able to make a bat at some point soon.

September 29, 2018

Maybe I'm the only one who feels this is luxurious but I love that feel when wearing a full coordinate. This blouse in particular is very comfortable and the fabric has a nice feel to it, something that surprised me when I first threw it on. I don't know if the feel is the same for anyone else when the don their frills but I still get that feeling, particularly when I add a hat or bonnet to my outfit for the day. (I also wore a pair of beautiful tatted gloves but I forgot to wear them for the photo.)

I wanted to wear one of my favorite pieces today but I felt it may be a bit difficult as I was between several things today and it wasn't going to do well to wear the best. In the end I was glad I didn't because I was running all over the place and would have regretted it. I actually walked into my wardrobe, saw this on my dress form from a few days ago, and immediately knew it would be a good choice for the day and work for the prompt.

<3 Coord Rundown <3
<3 Jsk/Blouse: Innocent World
<3 Pin: Ikemen Mode
<3 Hat/Gloves: Antique/Vintage
<3 Socks/Shoes (both unseen): Off brand
<3 Earrings: The Bloody Tea Party

Today has had me running like a mad woman! I'm honestly very tired and ready to hit the hay and dream about beautiful things. Last night actually had me dreaming about some con things and people I missed and wanted to see, hopefully I'll be able to see a few of them around Xmas and the rest next year....

So for now, I bid everyone a goodnight as I toss back the last of my tea, cheers! XOXO

LBC: What Were Mistakes You've Made When You First Joined The Fashion

When you start something new it's not so bizarre to miss a step while trying to familiarize yourself with the process of making it work. It’s something quite common when learning anything new and in this fashion there are easy pitfalls, there are also very drastic ones and some that aren’t as obvious. For this topic, with the Lolita Blog Carnival, we delve into the ones we have personally made when we first started the fashion.

<3 Buying More Main Pieces Over Staple Pieces <3

I know I am not the only one guilty of this and I feel like this was the biggest mistake in the beginning for me. I would buy anything I could find and it would often be, lucky for me, cheap second hand pieces. It would be very difficult for me to rationalize buying smaller staple pieces, like blouses, socks, and head pieces as they were often harder to find at reasonable prices. It also probably hadn’t helped that good pieces would be selling at the same prices I would get main pieces at, it didn’t help my desire to buy them at first.

<3 Buying Pieces That Weren’t Easy To Mix & Match <3

If amything, we learn early on that this fashion is extremely loud and has a great deal of variety in color combinations and substyles. This leads to making it difficult to streamline a budding wardrobe, giving the options to buy a few different pieces that match several garments. I did not think it through when I first started buying things. I bought across substyles, which isn’t too huge an issue, but they were not like colors so I had to try to find more. If I had the mind to do things at least in like colors, at first, I would not have had issues trying to pick up the staple pieces.

<3 Not Buying Patterned Brand Socks/Tights <3

This goes hand in hand with not buying staples and buying too many main pieces. Patterned socks are honestly a godsend for this fashion and instead of having ONLY solid socks or tights one can have a wide variety of patterned socks to create several different coords. There are a wide variety of different ones, from simple side designs to flocked to the extremely busy prints, easily changing up the whole look.

<3 Not Utilizing Coord Groups For Concrit <3

When I first started collecting pieces to build my wardrobe, finding basic staples here and there, I was too nervous to actually post myself to daily_lolita on livejournal, something I still have issue with on the newer fb group incarnation. I think in the beginning it could have been very beneficial to post to groups like that one to ask for concrit as most of the time people would be very helpful; however, I was always too nervous to put myself out there. Today we have other helpful groups for people just learning or need that extra hand, like Lolita Fashion Mentoring and Big Sisters Of Lolita Fashion

365 LLC Days 267 - 269: Of Movie Suggestions, Cutest Libraries, & Valentines For A Lolita In Another Country

September 24, 2018

We all know I'm going to have difficulties choosing a favorite so we all know this took me a very long time to pick. I have The Woods, MirrorMask, Pan's Labyrinth, The Craft, Beetlejuice, the too long...but I recommend all of them. For this one I will recommend the original Picnic at Hanging Rock as I have recently started watching the new one and have decided to compare the two. I actually liked the original movie, it has been a while but I think that it’s a good one still.

I’ve only gotten halfway through the episode so far but I can say that the costuming is pretty gorgeous (also check out Winchester but only for the costumes). Maybe I’ll make a coord inspired by this tomorrow...

September 28, 2018

Honestly, this is the cutest, and tiniest, library I been able to find in an area nearby. I haven't actually been inside but I love it and think it looks like a storybook, the whole neighborhood around it does too.

September 26, 2018

I actually made one and sent it out to a friend who lives in another country. I’ve been enjoying paper crafts recently because why not.

So I’ve just dropped my valentine in the mail and I’m actually off to a concert. Cheers! XOXO!

365 LLC Days 264 - 266: Of Gemstone Coords, Relaxing Music, & Outrageous Head Pieces

September 21, 2018

Todays challenge was interesting for me in a few ways, learning something new facts and finding a new appreciation for a gemstone while creating a coord is something I hadn't expected. The other thing that I found interesting is that this past year I have developed a quirk to my wardrobe I had never believed was going to occur, nor had I put any thought into making this happen or if I had wanted it to happen. I'll have to go over it in a post about how my wardrobe has developed in a few posts but here is the long and short of it, I decided to pick peridot as my gemstone, it's my birthstone, and the spike in green pieces in my wardrobe is enough to shock.

At first I was going to default to the beautiful ruby hues of my wardrobe and do one of those gems (garnet, ruby, etc) but then I found I had a plethora of green and that I should give one of those gems a shot. I picked peridot and went to familiarize myself with the stone of August. It can actually be varying shades of green but the only stone that isn't colored by trace elements but it's essential chemical composition. It's shade is affected by it's percentage of iron content, the higher the iron the deeper the green, going from a yellow~ish green to a dark olive green. One other interesting fact is that it's actually called the olivine, poor man's emerald (though Cleopatra loved them), and Hawaiite.

September 22, 2018

In all honesty, my music tastes run wild though what I find soothing doesn't, leading me to play things that are more often in a minor key or has a repetitive pulse~like quality to them. Here are a few of the albums I've been listening to today as I work or travel to and from. Recently the Hellraiser soundtrack has been catching my attention over the last few weeks and I think it's because it's got a wide range and the themes for each songs are drastically different from one another which doesn't often happen, at least in horror film soundtracks.

All of these are actually really great pieces to listen to and I would highly recommend the albums. What are some pieces you'd recommend? I am game for everything and particularly love classical music.

September 23, 2018

Craziest things I would put on my head............I'd say witch bonnets are pretty crazy so I drew one of those but I also think skull headdresses are pretty neat and can be pretty crazy. I know this one doesn't look very crazy and actually looks like some sort of skull bunny with the poor feather design but I'm going to work on something.

This It's getting to be a bit intense over here as I'm amping thing up for The Season of the Witch Bonnet event and I've been cutting and sewing things up like you wouldn't believe. Sometimes, I question if the lump of fabric is a pile of more fabric underneath or a cat that has secreted itself into things they aren't allowed in. (Unless it's a garment for me they aren't allowed in fabric piles).

So I'm going to make my way back into action and crank up that soothing music to add a little air of foreboding about? Whatever the case, I'm going to just plug that in and listen to the dulcet sounds of Halloween as I go. Cheers! XOXO

LBC: What Is One Piece You Could Never Give Away & Why

There are pieces in many a rufflebutts wardrobe that will be with us until maybe the end of our days. Pieces that can hold a major significance for the owner can sometimes be held on to even after the wearer leaves the fashion. In most cases I have witnessed people mention a piece that they think will go with them in some way. There are many reasons behind these instances and so this week we've decided to tackle the topic together on this weeks Lolita Blog Carnival.

As we've just discussed, I honestly don't believe I am going to be leaving the frilly life any time soon but for the sake of this topic let us imagine and say I'd only take one piece. And let's also forget the fact that I would like to be buried in Garden Fairy with a mermaid style wig that looks like it's going to consume my body, Triple Fortune bonnet atop my head, and chrysanthemums nestled throughout my coffin. Would that be the dress I'd take away with me?

Okay, short answer is yes.
In reality I have a short list of pieces I would never give up but this is actually at the top of the list, I can't think of a more beautiful piece. The reason is definitely the memories behind the piece, the last Rufflecon tea party, where right before I was asked why I wasn't wearing it yet (did not have a blouse just yet), and a few things I discovered shortly after about the dress. There is so much about this dress that I am bursting to share because it's wonderful but I feel I shall take these things to my grave. This piece just holds too precious a place in my heart and I don't think I could let it go if I didn't have to.

It was extremely difficult to choose between these three...

Even if I were to only keep a few other pieces I do have a list of ones that I would definitely keep, if only to wear out on my own when I felt like dressing up. I don't see a point in abandoning things that do make one happy and feel good about wearing, life is too short.

365 LLC Days 261 - 263: Of 2007 EGL Posts, Town Events, Ways Lolita Has Influenced You

September 18, 2018

I actually remember checking out that top posts pictures at some point when I finally joined LJ and went bouncing through the pages. I admittedly didn't join LJ till a little while after buying my first few pieces, but once I found it I lurked for a long time. I feel like Lolita fashion quickly became an addiction for me, once I had found the key to unlock my secretly frilly heart I wanted nothing else, I had to devour every bit of social media and join all the groups available.

September 19, 2018

We all know where I'm going to be when this happens. I do have a penchant for putting a bit of this delicious commodity into my teas from time to time. I have one that is from a small town in Spain that a friend brought back with them and it's probably one of my favorite I have. There are a few other festivals going on in the area but this one has my attention.

September 20, 2018

There are a lot of ways in which Lolita fashion has influenced me, both career wise and in daily life, and I'm certain that is the same for anyone who has worn the fashion for a few years.

It has made me learn how to do more for my hair and different hairstyles, I used to do a simple braid or put it in a ponytail and call it a day. Along with hair and learning different hairstyles it has made me try to focus a little more on makeup, better habits and more styles, but also focus in the aftercare for skin. I don't like wearing make up, if I'm not going outside or further then the fabric store I don't wear any and that's because I break out easily. So really, Lolita fashion has taught me a lot about my physical self~care and styling, it wasn't something I really did more of before aside from washing my problematic face and moisturizing.

There are other ways that the fashion and lifestyle has influenced me but it's more about how I surround myself with things that suit my aesthetic. I've learned of places that sell the things I like or have the materials to make it and I'm no longer complacent with letting things be the way they are. This fashion has really molded around my life and suited my likes and wants and I don't want to contain pretty things just to clothing.

I suppose the last thing that has been affected in my life is my work with my indie brand. I had wanted to try for years after getting involved in the fashion and seeing all the other people put their passion for it into creating, Blasphemina's Closet really struck a cord with me as it kind of fit a more gothic and classic style and it really compelled me to try.

And with that I've finished another 3 days installment of the 365 Lifestyle Lolita Challenge, I feel it was an interesting mix of where I have been and what I've learned and then my love of honey sneaking into a festival (I almost just left it at the pic but realized it didn't share anything about what or why I picked just one).

I do have to go and do some shipping for a few items from the Season of the Witch Bonnet event so I'm already pretty busy but have to get my rufflebutt back to the sewing table. Maybe I'll add a bit of honey to my next cup of tea when I get back....well, cheers! XOXO

365 LLC Days 258 - 260: Of Box Stepping, Complimenting A New Lolita's Coord Post, & Photographing A Favorite Print

September 15, 2018

This was a bit funny as my brain actually jumped to a different type of box step in dance. I've learned both before but I figure to share this one as it's more fun to do with a partner and doesn't need to learn much more to be fancy. It is called the box step because it indeed creates a box shape with your feet (if you stay in one place) and can be done to dances like the waltz. (One of these days we need a ball with dancing and maybe a little workshop for those who wish to learn.)

September 16, 2018

It actually wasn't a post for a new Lolita but in pm on fb. New friend showing me a few of her new purchases she was very excited to throw on.

September 17, 2018

One of my favorite prints that I have looked to find for a very long time. It's in the cut I wanted and one of the colors I sought it in, thanks to a friend scouting it on a Japanese second~hand shop that has since closed, but I can't help but be mesmerized by it.

The gilding, witches working their magics, and red eyed cats slinking about the print, it just screams "wear me!" I love the use of colors in this print, giving it a sort of antique vibe to it like a weathered parchment. Admittedly, when I first saw this print released I had wanted to red or black so badly but over the years I have felt the need for the brown (or all of the colors honestly). It's truly a wonderful print.

It's a bit rainy and dreary today, I have been more or less glued to my sewing table watching the weather balancing a cat on my lap. Today's prompt was a nice change of pace and got me to ruffle through my dresses for a bit. I really do love this print, I think it's the right level of elegant and witchy.

As for everything else, I do think when it's good to encourage when someone is on the right path, it can be nerve wracking when you are so new. (You're doing great!) And I am 100% wanting a Lolita fashion ball, has anyone done one before? Let me know in the comments or messaging.

Well, it's time to refresh my pot of tea, I've been drinking a nice chamomile today, and maybe I'll take a break and read or watch a spooky movie while I enjoy it. Cheers! XOXO

LBC: Where Do You See Yourself In The Fashion In 5 Years

Every week with the Lolita Blog Carnival we really try to ask ourselves all sorts of questions we feel others who are involved in the fashion would like to know or ask themselves. We do fun little ones that test our coordinating skills, as well, though we usually go with think pieces that try to go beyond the ruffles. This week I think we all went with a topic bouncing around at the back of my mind. Where do we see ourselves in 5 years time?

Roughly 2011? At my first meet a little after joining LJ.
If I look back at how I was when I first got involved in this fashion I remember being alone. I remember dressing up with odds and ends, my Alice jsk was difficult as it always felt off and I hadn't liked the long tea length, at first. Shortly after finding the EGL_community on LJ I started to gather a better understanding of the fashion and buy more garments (lol I mean dresses). Every step did take time and I feel like it leaves a mark on people who paid attention even if they leave the fashion.

The most recent fashion show group photo (Otakon 2018).

Over the years, I have vastly expanded my wardrobe, attended more meet ups, large scale events, and even cons dedicated to the fashion it's been a wild and extravagant adventure that has spanned just about 11 years. So when I think about where I'll be I start to wonder. Will I still be in the fashion? I think so. I believe I, with how involved I am with wearing it, how much just looking at the ruffles and lace makes me happy, and happier so on my body, will still be wearing these garments in 5 years.

My very first print and here's to many more.

I think I will still be wearing all of my classic, classic/sweet, coordinates and pieces without a doubt. The only real difference in my style that I can foresee is that I may wear more gothic pieces in the future. One of the things that I definitely enjoy is gothic Lolita but I tend to be very picky about it for some reason. I tend to like more witchy prints but there is something more to it for other print pieces. I don't know how to explain it but a lot of the things that I want to work on for my brand are definitely darker things that I would like to wear that I don't see often in the fashion.

I will probably be buried in princess sleeves.

In the end, I believe that even beyond 5 years from now you could find me, browsing through the museums or taking a stroll still enjoying being frilly and feeling elegant. I think I've loved this fashion for too long and too much and invested a lot into it emotionally, with things like my brand and enjoying what goes into the process even before wearing them.

If you'd like to learn what other fellow frillies have written on the subject definitely check out the links below! Each person is different with what they feel on the matter. And if you'd like to join in on our blogging shenanigans you can join the Lolita Blog Carnival, as well.

365 LLC Days 255 - 257: Of Bag Contents, 2007 Wardrobe Posts, & Coords Based On Favorite Historical Era

September 12, 2018

Though I generally clean out my purse every time I come home I have a few staple things that I always carry with me.

<3 Antique or vintage hand gloves
<3 Wallet
<3 Pen
<3 Small notebook
<3 Phone
<3 Headphones
<3 Handkerchief
<3 Makeup bag w/ lipstick and powder
<3 Extra jewelry that I either haven't thrown on yet or took off to wear my gloves

And that's really the long and short of it.

September 13, 2018

What I've realized since last time I went browsing through EGL's distant past is that a lot of photos just aren't there anymore. There is that and I really don't think there were any wardrobe posts done in 2007. I took a while to look through and I forgot it was like this and looked more like egl_sales instead of egl_community. There was everything all in one place at that time and I still get amazed by it.

September 14, 2018

None. I have no favorite historical era because quite frankly each has it's own disturbing little fact and I'd like to learn from them but keep moving forward to hopefully something better. Now if we were to just talk about clothing, fanciness, and architecture...I would still not have a favorite! For this challenge I decided to go with whatever I grabbed first, I have a few Robe a la Pietmontasse inspired butterfly wing op pieces so it was a surprise I would grab this garment.

Based off of 1740's style dressing gowns, this set is actually an op and removable jacket in disguise, making it a very versatile piece. I added the blouse to continue with common dressing styles of the era and thought the hat that I had made to go with the garment still worked well (though I was admittedly torn between this and another). The only other thing that I did that I had changed from the last time I wore this to a major event is the necklace I had made for the last fashion show. It's not really common for the time but it worked nicely with the coord, I think so anyway.

<3 Coord Rundown <3
<3 Jsk/hat/Music Note Pin/Blouse/Necklace: The Bloody Tea Party
<3 Socks: Alice and the Pirates
Gloves: Vintage
<3 Shoes: Off Brand

Today is going to be a doozy for sure. I've got the last bits of my Lolita Blog Carnival post that I've rewritten like 12 times in another screen and I've only just cleaned up the mess I made from putting together that coord. I did have fun with it but I went crazy looking for where I had put the coat away and had to iron it out a bit too. I think I'll just toss back the rest of my tea and go make a quick visit to my friend before it gets bad out.

I hope you've enjoyed this post, stay safe everyone! Cheers! XOXO
