Tea Parties To Die For...

Very recently, I have been thinking of Halloween...

I know it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy to soon to really think of that, but hey, I can't help it. It's my favorite holiday where you can dress crazy and the all time hated "Isn't it a little early to be dressed up for Halloween?" catch~phrase for the Loli~illiterate is cast aside for a whole month! (Even though most of us don't dress Loli for Halloween at all.)

Maybe I'm feeling in the spirit of things because the weather is so dark and dreary as of late.

I'm fine with dressing in Loli on Halloween, but I think I like dressing more themed or out there than usual. I'm not saying Lolita is anything like a costume, it's more like having the ability to experiment more and test my boundaries in certain areas without anyone so much as bating an eye. I can handle the name calling on a daily basis but it's nice not to have to.

This train of thought could also mean more girls afraid of trying out the frills can find the courage to do so.

I love Halloween, and I love Halloween prints that come out...

I've been thinking of some ideas for Halloween~themed/time meet~up and have been excitedly writing and drawing up plans.

Last year, we did a picnic in the cemetery late at night. We got all the permission to do so and planned and picked out a location in the cemetery and planned all sorts of fun games for the outing. We planned it for in the evening when it would start to get dark out, just enough to get a spooky chill.

Unfortunately for us, that chill turned into a near snowstorm of trouble. It was so ridiculously cold! >w< We nearly froze our little bloomers off due to a nor'easter, that blew through our neck of the woods the previous week, leaving the chill of winter.

This year we will be more prepared!!!

In other news on the RI Loli front: I've got a plan. I have this most fantastic Lolita meet~up idea that will be so much fun!

I won't divulge anything yet, not until I get all my little duckies in a row and have everything set, but it will be a pretty nifty tea party, if I do say so myself. This particular meet can be around Halloween but not necessarily.

The location I want to host a tea party is to die for, but the dead aren't there.

This location is pretty famous for an heinous act.

You can spend the night there, if you dare...

Okay, I wont say any more! I really can't wait and am very excited for this. I'll post more about it once I am set!

A Few Of My Favorite Things: Blouses (Part II: Peter Pan Collars)

A couple of weeks ago I wrote up a post on High Collar Blouses, so in order to get back to the land of the blogging living after nearly 2 weeks hiatus, I figured I start with the sequal to part I.

I thought my love of blouses in Lolita were only functional, before these posts, not paying much attention to the detailing that can be seen in the blouse. I usually only wear jsks, so the only time I get to see the detail in my own coord is when I'm changing.

Due to these recent posts, I have grown to appreciate this staple of the fashion more than I had. I always thought it was easy to buy a jumperskirt or an one~piece because of all the different styles and prints and solids. So many options to choose from and blouses were always a want but making due on a tight budget always made it more of an afterthought. That is until these last to posts...

What is your favorite part of a Lolita blouse?
The details on this blouse is very delicate looking and

This one is very lovely in white. The slanting rows of lace on the upper section is eye catching. I'm not a fan of the shirring on the upper part of the sleeve.

The large ruffly lace at the collar and wrists are delicate and look soft in combination of the blouse. It would be the perfect icing for some sweet Loli.

I think this one is toned down just by the difference in lace choice, other than that the cut is the same. Perfect for both classic and gothic Lolita. 

These two Peter Pan collars show both lovely and perfect for the gothic and classic styles in Loli. If there was a pink or blue version of these the would work perfectly for sweet.
Sharp and close collars really pop on these.

Again, Innocent World is trying to steal my soul.

A little more into the aristocratic theme but works for classic and gothic as well. There is a great deal of detail to the collar that I think is worth paying attention to.

I love the Peter Pan Collars in all the different shades they can come in. A good Lolita blouse, in general, are definitely worth the purchase.

A Few Of My Favorite Things: Blouses (Part I: High Collars)

Hey there!!!

It's been a while since I've done one of these so I figured, it's about time for one.

Blouses are difficult for me to make. I'm still working on my first and I'm still shaking my head at my own nerdy impulse to improvise or throw away a partern mid~use, but I still can't wait to figure it out.

Every detail is important for each individual blouse, in my opinion. The collar can't be too frilly, the lace has to be just right, the length of the blouse torso needs to be just right, and everyone has there own preference for something.

I like short sleeves. I think they are cute and still can be elegant and you can wear wristcuffs or bracelets or whatever on your wrists without taking anything away from the blouse itself. Long sleeves just get in the way sometimes, I mean I still like them but they have to be just right.

None of that three quarter sleeves stuff. That kind of throws me. It's like you have to decide whether you should or shouldn't wear anything on your wrists for fear of overpowering things, and possibly making your arms look too short.

I'm sure there is a three quarter sleeve somewhere that wont make me feel that but I haven't found it.

Cute, delicate, and just sweet enough. There is a meet we will be doing here soon that I think this
blouse would be perfect for...planning coordinate...

IW just wants to own my soul I think. This is lovely in every color. 

I love the fact that you can have long or short sleeves with this one. I love the cravat design as well.

Delicate in fabric and just enough lace. IW definitely does lovely high collar blouses.

I need one like this! I would use a different bow at the neck though...but this is probably my favorite. I'd need one in every color.
I really like the detail of this one on the collar. You can see it better on It makes me wonder do you put it on if the front and back don't seem to have any fasteners to undo?

Yup. My soul is on the table now. Another Innocent World pretty. The lace at the collar looks softer up close.

The pleats on this one are lovely and dainty. This would go well with high~waisted skirts and underbust jsks just so you could see enough of the detail.

Well, that's all I'm going to drool over for today. I need to pick myself up and actually get cracking on one of my sewing projects.

Madeleines ala Julia can't go wrong...

You! Yes, you, with the face looking at my blog!

Remember that madeleine post I made, just yesterday? You've got it right? Well forget it! The madeleine you need to try.

No joke. Just try it.

 Seriously, if you were thinking of making the other one, it's a mistake! Don't do it! I really never thought I'd do this, but you need to realize this cookie is the real deal.

I never understood when reading other people's blogs about maddies why everyone was being so picky and calling other ones I do, and I'm sorry I doubted the real reason.

Now, I've tried a few different recipes before the last one and never really thought they were much better, or had a reason to not be good. It is with a very heavy heart I realize those weren't the madeleines I was looking for.

The elusive spongy, not eggy, little half shell of heaven.

In order to right my wrong, I am posting this as close I can without over explaining.

I'd also like to thank Julia Child for making me realize my wrong~doing... Thank you.

Les Madeleines de Commercy/The Madeleines with The Hump on Top Original recipe found in 
From Julia Child’s Kitchen by Julia Child.

2 large eggs, beaten
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup unbleached, all-purpose flour
4 ounces unsalted butter and 1 1/2 tablespoons for buttering the molds (total of 5 1/4 ounces)
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon flour
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Grated lemon zest from 1/2 lemon
3 drops of lemon juice (or 2 of lemon and 2 of bergamot)
2 large Madeleine pans

All ingredients should be brought to room temperature before mixing so that the melted butter doesn't congeal either in the batter or before you have blended the ingredients together.

Combine flour and sugar in a mixing bowl and add 3/4 of the beaten eggs, slowly.  Beat vigorously with a wooden spoon to blend into a heavy cream. It will take a very long time if you aren't strong with a wooden spoon.

Take your time. – If very stiff, and it will be for a while, add a little bit of the remaining egg, one droplet or egg at a time.  Set aside for 10 minutes.

During the 10 bring all of the butter to a boil until it begins to brown lightly.

Stir the rest of the butter over cold water until cool but still liquid.  Beat the remaining bit of egg into the batter and stir in the cool butter. 

Stir in the salt, vanilla, grated lemon zest, lemon juice (and bergamot if using). 

Cover the batter, and set aside in the refrigerator for at least one hour. 

In the meantime, paint the Madeleine cups with a light coating of butter and flour mixture, wiping up any pools that form in the bottom.  Set the madeleine pan aside or refrigerate if the  kitchen is warm(THIS IS A VERY GOOD TIP< PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE!).

Preheat the oven to 375° while mixture and pans are in the fridge

Using a spoon and rubber spatula, drop a rounded tablespoonful of batter into each Madeleine cup.  Do not spread the batter to fill the mold.  Repeat with remaining batter and mold. 

Set pans on the middle rack and bake for about 15 minutes.  The batter will spread on its own to fill the cups and a hump will gradually form in the middle.  Unmold onto a rack, humped side up. True story.

Serve as is, or sprinkle tops with a dusting of confectioner’s sugar.* Makes 2 dozen Madeleines.

These are so good, they don't even need the powdered sugar dusting. No kidding what~so~ever. I'm serious! You want a good madeleine go to Julia Child...

Picnic In The Park!

Last week, I really got to baking up a storm!

We had a picnic in the park, for which I made several desserts that I believe were a hit, at least everyone eating all the strawberry doughnuts I made was a hit...I think...I like strawberries...

Moving on!

For this little outing I made three desserts. Strawberry doughnuts, strawberry cupcakes, and madelienes.

Here is the Madelienes:


☂2 eggs
☂3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
☂1/8 teaspoon salt
☂1/3 cup white sugar
☂1/2 cup all-purpose flour
☂1 tablespoon lemon zest (this is what the recipe calls for, I didn't do this)
☂1/4 cup butter
☂1/3 cup granulated sugar for decoration


♪ Preheat your oven to 375.
♪ Butter and Flour your Madeleine molds then set aside.
♪ This step should be unnecessary, but I forget to prep sometimes...melt your butter then let it cool to room temp.
♪ In a small mixing bowl, beat your eggs, salt, and vanilla until lighting color.
♪ Continue to beat and gradually add your sugar, beating until you have what looks like ribbons in your mix. It's that part where it looks like cake batter and you can drizzle the mix! It will take a bit so 5 to 10 minutes if you have an electric mixer, more if you don't have one.
♪ Next, sift your flour into the mix, a third at a time, and fold over a new section, all to prevent clumping.
♪ Add your lemon zest.
♪ Gently, add your butter around the edges, folding it into the mix.
♪ Use a tablespoon and pour the mix into your prepped pan to the point where they plump over the pan.
♪ Bake 14 to 17 minutes or until they plump back when you gently press the tops.
♪ Use a knife to gently wedge edges free and flip pan onto cooling wrack.
♪ While still cooling, sprinkle some powdered sugar over them. I made mine for a little tea party with a few friends

I also hear you can switch out 2 tablespoons of flour for 1/4 cup cocoa powder and add a 1/2 cup more  sugar for chocolate Madeleines...sounds good, I think I may have to test this.

I can't seem to find the pictures I took for the steps...but I'm pretty sure you get the idea. So instead I'll just post pics of the day!!!!

Also before you flare in frilly anger, I leave a note of disclaimer, our little group is open to everyone, whether people are only just testing the waters to see what Lolita is about, or more into visual kei and or even cosplay. If you can't hang out on a lovely day in the park with friends and need to stick to

There were so many ducks here is was so lovely to see! We even had a crane make a cameo, he flew right by us onto that other bank.

Lolita Runway Challenge: Part I

I'm submitting my entry to ABC Lolita!

The challenge is to make a replica of any Baby the Stars Shine Bright tartan jumperskirts, and she lists several in her blog post.

I am really excited about it. I think it will really help me improve my skills and my drive to sew with a schedule to really stick too.

Here's what I've got:

I've been toying around with a few design ideas and I realized there are several details I can't seem to get away from in several Btssb Tartan Jsks.

Peaking ruffles under scalloped hems, ruffle underskirts, cap sleeves, two small ribbons where straps and bodice meet, big ribbon under bib collar.

For specifics, I did a breakdown of exactly what I took from where.

I want the ruffled cap straps and ribbons on this jsk.

I usually don't like the scallops on the tartan jsks I've seen so far, but this one sold me.

I want the bibbed collar and three paneled front and sides of this one, the big ribbon in front, but no lace trim at the bottom.

 This part is my biggest debate, the rufflebutt bustle, I think it would look good all together and I don't need an outer ruffle for the tarten fabric.
