LBC: What Were Some Of The Most Impactful Moments For You In Lolita

There are so many truly impactful and powerful moments for me in the fashion, one being something that I vaguely mentioned in my previous 365 Lifestyle Lolita Challenge prompt (Day 332) so I'm expanding. I don't want to over kill this topic but I do want to write little snippets about each. They are things I never would have imagined possible or that they would happen to me, I am happy to have experienced or witnessed them though.

Being pulled up on stage during the performance of Brilliant Kingdom. This was impactful because I never saw this coming nor did I anticipate that Princess high that followed. This was so impactful to me because it briefly felt like something I had always tried to attain. Princess feels.

Now many of you may be tired of me at this point but I'm not, this print, as poorly done as it was (I'm currently reworking it), was a dream I have had for ages. I wanted to be an indie brand that could produce prints, of things I would like to wear, and aren't often found in the fashion. I never thought I would ever do it, after making this happen though I'm striving to work harder and to have all of my other weird and unusual prints made for my indie brand. I'm currently working on print number two for future projects so please stay tuned!

I would like to mention 2011/12 for Lolita fashion releases as that was the year that held my attention with releases. Series like Night Fairy Fantasia and Black Cat, Witch, & the Apple Tree were being released that year and things were simply magical.

Photo not mine

So this was from my very first modeling gig, way back during the first Rufflecon, and the fact that I was even allowed on stage was staggering to me. I have since modeled for several different brands, both indie and Japanese and I still can't believe it. Another thing that I found out is that there are some things I have modeled that I never dreamt I would be able to touch (like that Meta bridal gown from the final RC) and then there are some that I knew completely fit my style that I had to have (butterflies and also named Spring of Middle Earth? Yes, please!).

These are two that will go together for the fact that I can somehow say I got posted in both the Gothic Lolita Bible and Kera online. I had not expected either and was shocked to see myself in pages that I follow. Pair that with being a model for both Triple Fortune and Metamorphose and I'm even more shocked.

These are just a few of mine, I'm sure you have some of your own that I'd love to hear, but if you would like to hear about more from others check them out in the links below! Be sure to also check out the Lolita Blog Carnival facebook page if you are looking to join in. All you need is to have a blog that is primarily Lolita fashion, have the posts for the LBC written in English (as well as whatever your first language is), and have it be 3 months old with 9 or more posts.

365 LLC Days 330 - 332: Of 5 Year Predictions, Admiring Art, & Favorite Lolita Experience

November 26, 2018

Goodness, I'm usually fairly decent at predicting things that will happen in the fashion but this time I'm a little out of sorts. Last time I did this I know I listed that Chinese brands were going to really become stronger as would Indie brands in the states, those panned out like I thought. But honestly this time I'm blanking.

I do think jewel tones are going to be more in, sweet and gothic Lolita may vie for most popular substyles and may tie in to the vampire print being released by brands like Angelic Pretty and Alice and the Pirates. I'm really all over the place but I think they can't be as far off as the time I thought that teal/green color (like the one in the Night Fairy Fantasia series) was going to be a new popular color.

November 27, 2018

I haven't actually had the chance to do this in a very long time. I don't mean to say I haven't been to a museum over the last few months, I've been to a few during meetups, but I haven't been out on my own and gone off to simply take in my surroundings. I haven't done much of any of that over nearly 2 years to go and do nothing, every outing has had a purpose. But today I shirked every single responsibility and task to go milling about.

I got to view Fragonard's The Swing (of which there are two variations, to clarify), Madame Bergeret and Madame du Barry, and quite a few other works of the late 17th and 18th century French paintings, even one that I swear is my friend, Kerry's, doppelgänger. I especially loved getting to view the detail with which things were conveyed, you could even see very clearly some of the different laces that people wore in their garments.

And as for mine, I decided to go all out into OTT territory - managing to get a few photos by propping my phone up on a couch meant for guests to use - trying out a combo of my Triple Fortune bonnet with the chess story underskirt. As it's been getting colder the extra layers are welcome and there are less people who bother to ask questions about the outlandish, which works for me!

November 28, 2018

I actually have one that is super close to my heart that I want to keep close. I'll write it in my little notebook and keep it locked away, I feel like it's too special to share and really meant a lot to me to hear those words from individuals I hold dear. I will always cherish what was said by them, as I look up to them, and strive to keep pushing forward. What was said in that hectic and cacophonous room will be treasured and the whole thing leading up to it is my favorite Lolita experience.

That last one was very difficult for me to choose from out of two particular experiences that I could not decide between. The other was what occurred a few years ago at Rufflecon, being brought up on stage by Babi during the Brilliant Kingdom performance. I swear my knees were going to give out and that Princess Vibe was strong during that night (how I'm still alive and breathing like a normal human being is beyond me and my face has definitely changed several shades of red typing this....)

So now that that's all out and about I'm off to bed, I've thankfully already put away my teapot and cup and everything is spit~spot clean. Cheers! XOXO

365 LLC Days 327 - 329: Of List Of Little Pleasures, Song Inspired Coords, & Videos Of Calligraphy

November 23, 2018

Like many, I have a laundry list of little pleasures I love and figured it'd be nice to list them in my little book. I don't know if anyone else does this sort of thing very often but I'm finding I do find it one of my little pleasures.

November 24, 2018

I've been listening to all sorts of different songs today trying to figure out what I'd like to coord around. From soundtracks and classical music to new age and metal, there really isn't anything that holds me back when it comes to music, everything is just a variation of coord progressions and, often times, witty wording that makes people really like a song. The song I eventually went with was Princess from Versailles, I thought it really gave off that flowery feel while still feeling a bit powerful and this is what I came up with.

November 25, 2018

As someone who tries to work on her calligraphy fairly often this is a nice video for me to check out different styles of penmanship. I think that it's a nice skill to have, if anything it's just pretty to look at if the writer is skilled. I also found it funny that this was a prompt after using my quill pen (terribly) and writing out a few things in my little book.

The last few days have been a lot of sewing and work but, very thankfully, we've been able to enjoy the little things all this weekend.

I always tend to enjoy making lists of things and this past year I've really gotten back into writing them out in a book. I used to kind of scrapbook things with it, making doors and cut away frames, even embroidering into fabric swatches I'd add into pages. This is really making me want to get back into it.

One of the things I watched about calligraphy was that I should try a different method to get used to vertical and horizontal strokes. There are a ton of really good tutorials for calligraphy writing on youtube and many are very soothing to watch.

I think now is a good time to put back my tea things today, I was able to heat up a delicious oatmeal and maple scone I had made a few days ago and it hit the spot. Cheers! XOXO

365 LLC Days 324 - 326: Of Places I'd Like To Go, Pictures That Remind Me Of Lolita, & Performing Things Differently

November 20, 2018

I actually happened to organize a few of the books in the shelf today and found this one. I'm still learning about new locations all around the area so it was nice to look at a book that had a broader focus than what I'm used to looking out for. There are definitely some good places I gladly ticked off in here to check out, hopefully sooner rather than later.

November 21, 2018

If I were to think of pictures that reminded me of Lolita fashion it'd definitely be some of these old picnic and afternoon tea photos. They really do remind me of the meets we all really enjoy, whether it's a picnic or an actual afternoon tea, with everyone dressed to the nines.

I would love to do another meetup sometime next year in mid~spring in the garden I'm so ready to have. I can't wait to start to pick out plants, things both to eat and things to nourish the bees and butterflies in the area, and have a lovely space to enjoy in a more intimate setting with friends.

November 22, 2018

I really wasn't sure what I could do for this one until I took a break from sewing today and went to sit at my keyboard. For those who do not know, I am classically trained, not very good mind you, but even after schooling I still enjoy playing piano and practice every day I can. Today I decided to approach it a bit differently and as I am switching up my pieces to include a new one, by Franz Liszt, I figured now was also a good time to do this.

Usually, as with many people who play piano, I sight read through a new piece and start in small fragments. This time I took a little longer in my sight reading and did a bit more of a proper analysis of the piece, and even a little review of it's history. This particular one is Consolation No. 3 in D flat Major. It's a fairly played piece and was something that Liszt replaced the original Consolation No. 3 with, something I had not known before. That and the fact that this was such a favorite that it was often an encore piece was interesting.

I do think that though I do research bits about composers lives and writing out chord progressions on the music is great, I really haven't done much on pieces since college and feel I'd like to get back into that. It was just nice to do today and a bit unexpected before throwing my face into the actual sheet music. It doesn't really serve much purpose to know the background but I find it intriguing none~the~less.

It's actually a holiday today so everyone is home but we don't really celebrate in a traditional way, we do try to be more mindful of what we should be thankful for though. If there is one thing that I am grateful for, that isn't family and friends, whom I hold dear, it would definitely be this fashion and tea. I'm currently downing the rest of this lovely lavender one, given to me by a friend, that has this wonderful blend with a few other flowers; it's definitely lulling me to sleep so I think I should clean up and be off. Cheers! XOXO!

365 LLC Days 321 - 323: Of Different Types Of Lace, Favorite Makeup Items, & Extra Care Of Hands

November 17, 2018

There are many types of different lace, chantilly, bobbin, tatting, guipure, alençon, there are actually so many to tick off. They are all sorts of beautiful lace styles to behold. One thing I hadn’t realized was that I really enjoy a type called guipure which is actually something that covers a lot of tea room tables. There is a beautiful one that I saw right on the first page that has all of these beautiful butterflies on it. This style of lace is also done in bars and not plaits which is something I find interesting.

November 18, 2018

Over the last few years I have really been learning more about makeup from wearing it for the fashion. One of the things that I found that I absolutely LOVE after trying it out was this CC cream that goes from this white color to completely match your skin tone. I thought it was so awesome because I saw the shop girl try it on and watched as the cream changed to match her skin, which was a few shades different then mine and she had more of a red undertone, and then watched as she had me try it on me.

How this works is beyond me (science, you magical mistress you!)! It’s not translucent and I’ve tried it out, toting it around with me on visits and getting other family members to try it and completely baffling them. It’s almost like a party trick. I don’t know much about other CC creams but this one definitely sparked an interest to try more.

November 19, 2018

I don’t know about you but I absolutely abuse my hands! So today I’m going to be a bit more vigilant at applying moisturizer to them. It’s a bit tough as I am mid project but I’m going to try to do a few breaks so it absorbs. However, this is a good thing to get into better practice with as it’s getting to be that dry cold here, now. I’m using this cute panda cream someone got me a while back for Xmas, I love pandas!

I always get a little paranoid about not posting on the day of the third prompt if I get it done earlier then I usually do. I nearly forgot to post this since I had done it so early in the morning so I could be mindful about reapplying lotion to my hands.

365 LLC Days 318 - 320: Of Favorite Lolita Art, EGL Meetup Posts, & Lolita Playlists To Get Ready To

November 14, 2018

Found on Google.

This was a bit difficult for me as I don't go looking at Lolita fashion art often. I tried to once and then feared for my life looking what people had attached to the tag and would rather not scar myself for the rest of my life. I would like more art like this where it's a little more macabre and ethereal and elegant.

This particular pic feels very much like something I would wear and now makes me want to change outfits. I have never seen anything else by this person but I would like to see more Lolita fashion artwork from them. If anyone else knows of more please let me know!

November 15, 2018

I wasn't sure if I should have gone with a comm that was maybe the next one over or not but I did enjoy this particular post. I did look at my nearby comm's old meet up posts, before I moved to this area, and thought it was rather neat to see the faces I know now at different stages in the development of the comm. It was also interesting to find out who I actually could recognize from the old LJ days when I saw their names pop up in different meetup posts.

November 16, 2018

Oh dear, here we go...

I needed to make several playlists to try and go for the feeling of the day and what type of coord I'd wear. Mostly I listen to things that are heavily instrumental, soundtracks, new age (is it still called that) music even in general. This particular playlist has things like Mediaeval Babes, Brilliant Kingdon, Akira, Versailles, and a plethora of other groups that I like. I have been working on breaking down playlists to what feels right for the mood of what I'm planning to wear, nothing too
in~depth just a little more streamline in sound.

Now I just want to whittle the rest of my day away changing my playlist but truthfully I'm running on both empty energy and tea. I am still not doing well and haven't been able to shake this so I'm curled up after I've finished my work and I've been drinking some ginger tea trying to soothe myself. I nearly made an entirely different playlist of just my movie soundtracks and its getting to be very interesting figuring out which ones I do (hint they are almost all horror movies).

Well, I'm off to bed, I need to put things away and rest before I can't keep my eyes open any longer. Cheers! XOXO!

LBC: Create A Cozy & Comfortable Coord

If there is anything we have learned on the east coast over the last week is that it is time to pull out more cozy and comfy coordinates. Though there are a lot lolitas who have their coordinates and wardrobes geared towards comfort some of us haven't. This week on the Lolita Blog Carnival we take to our wardrobes to do exactly that and create something we would find cozy and comfortable.

I've actually don't have much in the ways of sweaters or cardigans that would match much of my outfits. I do have 2 brand ones that I do wear when it's chilly but usually I pull out jackets and even boleros so I feel I don't have much that feel appropriate for this post. I think that it's just more my aesthetic to have things more tailored looking in some ways so it was hard to pull out pieces that fit this theme. What I did veer towards was this grey oversized sweater that I have and haven't really paired with my Lolita. I have a brown one that I recently did another cozy coord with but I decided to try working with this one and see if I could get any mileage out of it.

Though I could have gone with a few darker pieces I thought this might actually be a good mix. I quickly made a simple bow for this as I am always forgetting to make more white accessories and headgear, I didn't think anything too extravagant would help the cozy look. I do admit to cheating and reusing some of the style ideas from the last time I made an outfit like this, with the oversized necktie, simple headbow, and long sleeves peaking out, I think it just works well for the idea. I think once I put this all on it may feel like it works a bit better so I'll share that too, eventually.

I think this week will have me making out a few more of these for the day as it's finally getting colder. If you would like to see what other people wrote and worked out for this weeks topic be sure to check them out in the links below.

365 LLC Days 315 - 317: Of 3 Things I'm Grateful For, Dream Dress Coord, & Real Queen's

November 11, 2018

<3 Existing <3

It stills boggles my mind that I drew and printed this...

There are definitely so many different styles and trends this world has to offer but, to me, there is nothing quite like Lolita fashion. It's attractive and elegant and though many of the cuts are considered simple in the world of sewing it's unique to anything else. Not only that but it's something that I was looking for in a fashion since I was younger. I wanted to be able to enjoy a frillier style without the more mundane twist that fashion had produced and something not quite as cumbersome as historical fashion, which seemed less accessible for daily wear. Lolita fashion was just the right combination for what I wanted and I was amazed with my very first glimpses at the fashion. I also wouldn't have some of the friends that I do if it weren't for the fashion, so that's included in this.

<3 Motivates My Creativity <3

The orange and black craze hit me hard so I made a orange and black Witch's Bonnet for the shop.
Here it is with a jsk a made a few years ago.

This may seem a bit strange as one does not need a catalyst to create things, not necessarily, but in a lot of ways it does for me. Seeing all of the beautiful creations that are made to go along with this fashion and, sometimes, seeing things that this fashion could use but is lacking seems to really get me going. I love making things that are in a way part of a collective beauty and that people enjoy wearing.

<3 It Makes Me Feel Great <3

Ah yes, we had the bonnet craze. No help could be had.

Outside of this fashion I actually have never worn much besides either clothes that were functional and something I wouldn't mind working in the yard in. I didn't see a problem with this idea either, I didn't collect clothes or go out looking for band shirts, I just wore what was available for a long time. Once I got to college I did start to wear things that sometimes felt like I rolled around in a dark closet and the threw open the door to great the world in, though I found it fun even if it wasn't normal. And then I found out I could actually BUY (and my own money was certainly helpful) Lolita fashion and threw my money at it and never turned back. The moment I opened the packages they came in and threw them on my body, to try it on, I was mystified by the feel of the fabric, the look of it being so different, and the fact that it felt somehow made for me. It was like a dream come true in a very weird and bizarre way.

It did take me time to figure out how to wear the fashion, the basics, the silhouette, and then also finding the community and navigating it but it felt worth it with every step I took. I know others feel the same, some not as strongly as I do, but I think it makes many who do wear the fashion feel something good and lovely and elegant about themselves that they may not have thought before.

November 12, 2018

For today's prompt it asks me to create a coord with my dream dress as a base, I have several that I have acquired. I write a bit about the others so for today I'm going to use one that I don't often talk about. The reason for that is due to the fact that a lot occurred getting this dress and after. I wish I could look at it with better feelings but in all honesty it's rather difficult so I am trying to figure out a way to do so. It's actually missing the detachable bow and the chain (I had made one for it) and the shopping service had missed that before shipping it out to certainly sucked the wind out of my sails, as I'm sure it would for anyone else opening a dream dress package to find it's not what was promised and paid for. But I'm trying to kick this feeling in it's ruffled butt.

You know that feeling when a piece seems just a bit magical and falls into that dream dress status? The colors tend to work just right and, if there is one, the print is a subject that holds a special place in your heart? That's really how Night Fairy Fantasia was, and is, to me, particularly the navy colorway in this cut. It just perfectly emulates what I see in my head when I think of Peter and the crew go flying back from Neverland to bring Wendy and the others home. There have been an awful (amazing!) amount of Alice in Wonderland prints, as well as other fairy tales, but I feel out of the more common ones Peter is often left out, and his story is actually my favorite.

November 13, 2018

This post has me going all over every kingdom looking for fantastical Queens that made impacts on history, as there have been quite a few Princesses that break that mold (previous posts here and this year's 365LLC post, here). Though it appears there are a great deal of tough cookies, or terrifying cookies, I tried to go with some I hadn't really heard of.

Taken from Our News Group webpage
With that in mind I stumbled on Rani of Jhansi, Lakshmibai, the woman who rebelled against the British and fought for her peoples' independence. When the British tried to overthrow a rival Prince Laskshmibai was proclaimed regent and swooped in. She organized troops and took charge of the rebels, mutineers from the surrounding areas actually came to offer their services and aid her. This is just one small instance in this woman's sadly short life, she was a force to be reckoned with.

Though her life was short it seems there is a lot of information about her life and there are many statues of her all throughout India. There are dramas and stories that include her in India - and unfortunately there are colonial period stories that exist that have tried to slander her - with a show from 2009 that I think I have to check out. According to historic records she was born on the 18th of November, which is just a few days away, of 1828 and she was Queen of Jhansi.

I feel like the post about the dream dress coord took a lot more out of me then I had anticipated! I had fretted over it all day and I find I am lacking in things to add to it(I still am not pleased with it). It's still on the dress form in my closet away from my cats, maybe it will inspire me over the next few days.

As for real Queens, I dove in headfirst and I assimilated all sorts of bits about this particular woman and a drastic amount of others. I tried to find someone who had a strong affinity for music and the arts, maybe even play an instrument or sing so I have that going on in a couple of different tabs right now.

The last thing I'd like to remark on for today is that the first prompt really reminded me of all the good the fashion brought me. I've made some pretty amazing friends, who somehow accept me and my insanity, that I miss many of right now. It inspired me with a dream I didn't realize I would have (I have wanted to have my own indie brand since a little after joining this fashion) and I have found some incredible talented individuals who also inspire me to keep going. And, of course, I love this fashion simply because it is beautiful and intriguing. I hope many others share the same affinity I have.

And so I need to toss back the last of my tea and clean up my teapot and cup and prep myself for another day. Cheers! XOXO
